Unit 3: Osbourne's Autumn Statement
Chancellor George Osborne has updated MPs on the state of the economy and the government's future plans in his Autumn Statement. The key points are outlined in this article. Useful application marks for any question on UK Economic Policy.
While pension age increase won't be popular amongst many, it seems the right thing to do. I know many relatives and family friends who work beyond 66 and claim it's not as strenuous as it's made out to be. Growth is very promising, and I didn't expect such positive figures (although spin is an important tool in a politician's arsenal). Labour need to be careful in their handling of the Autumn Statement, especially with the back-handed comments about the high borrowing by the coalition, only for Cameron or the limp Nick Clegg to reply back 'you put us in this mess', or something to that effect. Is it just me, or is a Conservative government looking slightly more likely for May 2015 (with UKIP, of course...)?
