Unit 1: Latest by-election result in Scotland

With the opinion polls it seems like the Labour party seems to have a lead ranging from 0-8 points, this may seem good in some cases but surely its not unusual for a governing party to be behind in the polls mid term before their policies have taken effect. It seems like the Labour lead may start to drop pretty quickly if economic growth picks up. Could UKIP split the right wing vote enough to force a lab-lib or con-lib coalition?
